No. Dr. Paul should not waste his time trying to overcome the hurdles to ballot access as an independent candidate. He’s been there, done that, & bought the proverbial T-shirt. Anyone suggesting an indy run for the WhiteHouse for Dr. Paul is blissfully unware of the fence the Democrats & Republicans have put up to limit fair access.
Until Dr. Paul advises us otherwise, here’s the plan:
Continue to run for the Republican nomination as long as support & donations & accumulations of delegates continue to advance. Dr. Paul’s long stated ‘plan B’ was to run as a Republican for re-election to Congress in the Texas 14th District. He won his District by better than 70% over the neocon pup who tried to unseat him. The people of Paul’s district understand the freedom message and have been ‘coming around’ for a long time. At least we still have him in Congress promoting liberty and a smaller federal behemoth. But as far as an Indy run, again?
Dr. Paul did the 3rd party run once upon time & could only get on ballots in 47 states for the general election. Ballot access is easier if you are a Demopublican since they have set high hurdles to anyone else who isn’t ‘one of them’. Otherwise he would have to spend from now to the general election trying to get on ballots, rather than promoting the Freedom Message. Is that the best use of his time & resources???
“Ron Paul often refers to two main points when asked why he will not run outside of the Republican Party. The first is that he believes that he is closer to what used to be the Republican platform than any other candidate, i.e. a humble foreign policy and a small government approach to governing; the second is that obtaining ballot access for any candidate outside of the two-party system is extremely difficult. The later is something Jesse Ventura, the former Governor of Minnesota also alluded to when saying it was not likely that he would run for Oval Office. Jesse Ventura has gone a step further, saying recently on the Fox News channel, “If you could get me ballot access in all 50 states and allow me in the debates, I would not only run I would win.” I would venture to say that Ron Paul feels the same, because it is indeed a question of access. This reality begs the question, who then is the dictator controlling the access?”
